I couldn’t decide what post to do today, so I settled on a makeup tag. I saw this tag on itsjudytime’s channel, and loved the questions, so I thought I’d do it on my blog!
1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
When I was younger I used to do dancing. I did both ballet & jazz dancing for about 9 years, and every year we would have concerts where we’d do our dance routines for our families/friends (it filled a massive concert hall). For each of these performances, we had to wear stage makeup, which consisted of brown eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and red lips. So I’d say I was probably about 5 when I first wore makeup. But when I actually started wearing it out & doing it myself was in highschool, from about grade 10 I would wear foundation, concealer, mascara, a bit of blush & sometimes some coloured eyeliner 🙂
2. How did you get into makeup?
I think I really got into makeup in year 12 of highschool. I still didn’t wear much makeup to school, but I practiced smokey eyes & colourful eye looks at home. And from there my obsession grew, and I decided to do a makeup course a couple of years later.
3. What are some of your favorite brands?
My favourite brands would have to be MAC, Inglot, Benefit, Maybelline (mascaras & lip products), NYX, Makeup Geek, Revlon…
4. What does makeup mean to you?
Personally, I think makeup shouldn’t change who you are, and it shouldn’t be relied on to make you feel confident. Don’t hide behind it. You need to be comfortable in your own skin. Makeup should be used to highlight your already gorgeous features. And also it’s fun to play with and create different looks!
5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
Foundation, mascara, brow powder/pomade and… cream blush that I could also use on my lips 😉
6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
That there really are no rules, and the only limitation is your own imagination. I think makeup products are beautiful & I love trying new ones out.
7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs. high end makeup?
I think that there are some great drugstore products, and you really don’t need to use high end products to create a gorgeous look. However, personally I do prefer some high end products to drugstore. For example, high end foundations/face products generally have a wider range of shades & cater to more skin tones than drugstore ones do. Because I’m so fair, the majority of drugstore face products are always too dark for me, which is a bummer. Also, high end eyeshadows are really worth the money, and are generally a lot better than their drugstore counterparts. But there are some exceptions, Wet N WIld eyeshadows are great quality, probably the best in the drugstore.
8. What is one tip of advice you can give a beginner?
Practice, practice, practice! Honestly, your skills will improve with time. Also educate yourself by watching YouTube videos & reading blogs. I learnt a lot of what I know by watching YouTube beauty videos :).
9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
80’s makeup. Over the top blue eyeshadow (not well blended obviously), going all out on eyes, cheeks & lips at the same time.. no. Just, no.
10. What do you think about the beauty community on Youtube/Blogging community?
